The Office for the Protection of Competition issues information bulletin on State aid rules during COVID-19 pandemic

2020-11-10
State aid, when targeted properly, significantly helps to mitigate possible consequences of restrictions caused by the fight against COVID-19 global pandemic which negatively affect various areas of economic and social life. State aid is supervised by the European Commission within the European Union. The Commission’s active attitude in this area has led to approval of hundreds of State aid schemes in EU Member States since March 2020.

The Office for the Protection of Competition negotiates the conditions and form of State aid schemes related to the Czech Republic. Eighteen COVID-19 State aid schemes were approved before the closing date of this information bulletin, which provides information relating not only to these State aid schemes but also to general State aid rules applied during COVID-19 pandemic, obligations of State aid providers pursuant to the “Temporary Framework for State aid measures to support the economy in the current COVID-19 outbreak“, new decree on the content of data entered into the Central register of de minimis aid, fitness check and extending validity of selected regulations in the area of State aid. It mentions also extension of General Block Exemption Regulation (GBER) by means of new State aid categories, revision of Guidelines on regional State aid for 2014–2020 taking into account the period from 2022–2027 or review of Commission Notice on the recovery of unlawful and incompatible State aid.
